Can I sell my deceased mother’s HDB flat under the lease buyback scheme?

Hi Singapore property team,

My mum passed away in January last year and I have been trying to sell her old 3-room HDB flat in Toa Payoh Lorong 7. The flat has a lease of 54 years left. It has been on the market for more than a year at below market price and there are still no buyers. I need money urgently to pay for my husband’s medical bills. He is currently undergoing dialysis. Can I sell the flat back to HDB? Can you help me advertise the flat on your website? Thank you!

Hi Nisha,

We are sorry to hear about your predicament. Unfortunately, you cannot sell back the remaining lease of your mother’s flat back to HDB. The lease buyback scheme is currently offered by HDB to living elderly persons at 65 years or older to allow them to tap on their flat to receiveĀ a stream of income in their retirement years, while continuing to live in it.

As an independent property portal not affiliated to any property agents or company, we also do not market any properties for sale or rental here. You may like to consider appointing another agent to market your property, lowering your asking price further or as a last resort, put it up for auction.
